IBM R40e Boot Problem - Novell Linux Desktop 9
Hi
I'm pretty new to Linux so you'll have to bear with me if I don't understand certain things I've installed (after several unsuccessful installations from bad media) the eval version of Novell Linux Desktop on my IBM R40e Laptop. The only problem atm is that it will not boot normally, hanging on various different points, mostly hanging on "starting SSH daemon.... done" (found when pressing F2 to switch console??). After doing some internet searching this seems to be a common problem with this model of IBM and Suse-based systems, but no page seemed to offer a solution. I can boot in failsafe and also figured out if I add "apm=off acpi=off" the the boot parameters of the default boot item it will also boot, so I'm guessing the power management aspect of linux isn't working correctly. obviously this being a laptop I use on the move, it would be very very helpful if I could know the battery status/life etc. so, does anyone know of any specific solutions to fix this? if not can anyone guide me through finding a solution? Many thanks. |
I bet if you look through the items in this thread, you'll get most of the help you need.
Novell Linux Desktop is not going to be much different than SUSE 9.2. It's just a different look and application suite installed. |
look here too for enabling ACPI on your R40e.
