I hate green splash screen colour
Hi Folks,
It looks like I shall have to re-install my Suse 9.1 Personal (free) Linux, so this seems like the best time to ask this. I really hate the green colour of the boots/splash screen(s). Is there anything simple (and for free) that I can do to change it/them? I don't mind that it's not full of graphics, nor do I mind that it's not animated. I just detest the colour green. Thanks in advance. (I'm off for couple of weeks and so may not be able to reply before then.) JessJ |
Easy in desktop preferences somewhere you can change it...

Hi ctkroeker,
The question is " boots/splash screen(s)" NOT desktop To jessj, Here we go: 1. Grub menu is managed by something called "gfxboot" in SuSE. Change theme in /usr/share/gfxboot/themes and read the file /usr/share/doc/packages/gfxboot/README Copy the resulting file to your /boot/message (make a backup first) 2. This is the bootsplash while booting: Download some bootsplash images from bootsplash.de http://bootsplash.org Put the directory inside /etc/bootsplash/themes For example "aqua" Put your aqua theme in appropriate place: /etc/bootsplash/themes/aqua edit the file: /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash change the line Theme to "aqua". execute (as root; backup the mkinitrd): mkinitrd -b /boot -k <kernelname> -i <initrdname> -s 1024x768 The value for -s must be same as your image inside aqua". Remember if you have 16:9 screen it might be possible that different values like 1280x800 do NOT work. So, try with simple 1024x768 and experiment later. |
Hi biophysics,
Thank you so much. (Actually, I now recall seeing a drop-down list with only one "option", of what I assume was an image file name, when I last installed Suse. Perhaps that was also a place to put a new file of this nature?) Anyway, I look forward to trying out your suggestion as soon as I'm back from my conference! Thanks again, JessJ |
