I cant access my SUSE 9.2 GUI


I'm an amatuer when it comes to Linux. I recently installed Linux Suse 9.2 on my PC. I can only access the command line interface screen but when i try to switch to GUI i only get a blank screen. Please help.

I don't use Suse but I have a disc with Suse 10.3 from last December.

I would install this version or an even later one if available.

SUSe 9.2 may not have drivers for your hardware and so is just limping

along in text mode.

It might be possible that suse9.2 did not have the correct driver ,because it is rather out dated.
But we can give it a try.
Being in the command line log in as root
Startup yast>hardware>graphic card and monitor
It will probe you graphic card and monitor again.
If it come up with some thing use full save it
Than try the command startx if the above was success full the xserver will started
An other thing is give us the spec of you,re graphic card and monitor that can be use full too

Thumbs up Thank you Guys

I followed all the tips you gave me, my GUI was enabled all along.
But when i entered the startx command i got a fatal error message, i had to remove this file (/tmp/.X0) and start the server again.

LQ ROCKS!
