I can only connect to internet by opening Yast and choosing Network settings twice.

Once I had an icon on my toolbar (Leap 42.3) that when I clicked on it I would connect to the internet, and another click would disconnect.

At some point some upgrade removed the icon. Now, the only way that I can connect to the internet is to open Yast choose [Edit], then [General], Activate Device must be set to (Manually) then choose [Next] then choose [Ok].

The first time I do this Network Settings will hang at about 70%. When I do the exact thing again a second window opens and closes the first settings window then completes the setting. I am now connected to the internet.

I have tried other settings in the Network Card Setup window but this is the only one that connects me to the internet. I have resigned myself that this is the price to pay for updates.

I would like to have the icon back if it is available and if not,
information for a faster way to get online would be appreciated.

The post:
Switch to Network Manager Service, fixed the problem.
My icon returned and I can click to connect or disconnect the network.
Problem solved Thanks,

Then you were likely using NetworkManager. It has a desktop GUI front-end for managing network connections. Which desktop environment are you using BTW?

It reads like you are now using wicked instead. (This behaves more like the traditional ifup/ifdown network management.)

This command can be used to confirm that wicked or NM is in use...
Code:
systemctl status network

Switch back to NetworkManager then...

YaST > System > Network Settings > Global Options > Change the 'Network Setup Method' to 'Network Manager Service'. Click 'OK' when done. This should result in the NM icon being present again.
