I can't get my default kdm theme back

As part of a mac style makeover I changed my bootsplash, kdm theme and splash screen to custom ones and now I want to go back to the default look.
The bootsplash and splash screens are now back to the default ones but I can't get the kdm theme to change. I've tried changing it through yast and editing sysconfig manually to the default one and I even installed kdm theme manager but no themes show up in that at all.
So I've deleted all other themes except the original default suse one and tried editing kdmrc (though anything I change in that seems to get ignored).
Now when I boot up I don't get a theme at all at login, it says it can't parse the mac theme.
When I first changed the theme to the mac one, all I did was change it in yast.

Well I managed to figure out a workaround. I compressed the suse kdm theme directory in /opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm as a tar.gz archive then installed through kdm-theme-manager and it works ok now but I'd still like to know why I can't do it any other way.
