These files are useless for installation. SUSE 9.3 has not been released on FTP yet.

No, the files you found on the server are the FTP Add-On for user of the 5CD set. These are packages that are not contained on the CD's but on the DVD. The ISO file you mentioned does not contain any package, only kernel and installer. So you miss most basic packages. The only method to get 9.3 for free at the moment is the torrent download of the ISO's. For network installation you'll have to wait...

Typically, Novell will release the files to FTP after a certian period. This is usually when they're getting close to release the next version. I've seen this with 9.0, 9.1, 9.2. I expect the same with the 9.3 FTP release. You figure you have a six month cycle between releases and I've seen them open the FTP at about four months after release. IOTW, they'll probably (by my estimate) release 9.3 on FTP in August or September.

Yes you are. For example you won't find a kernel rpm. Have a closer look and you'll see that all important packages of a base system are missing. The readme is also a good indication:
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.sus...9.3/README.txt
SUSE comes with an amazing range of software. The fact that the supplement consists of 3600 packages might be missleading.
EDIT: the 64bit system is supposed to be complete, however I still do not find important packages like e.g. the kernel or hotplug. So I guess it is not installable without some 32bit packages.

A while back I had some good luck with the DVD that they distribute as a "Demo". What I did was first have a clean formatted partition that I wanted to install SuSE 9.3 into, then booted up the DVD Demo version, then I used rsync to copy the DVD Demo to the hard drive. Then rebuild the GRUB or Lilo.conf as they won't work by default. I found a lot of web pages on how to use chroot to install lilo to the mbr of the disk so that it would boot. I am sorry I don't have more specific instructions, all I can say is that I did it, and it worked. I pretty much followed the same instructions one would follow to install Knoppix to a hard drive.

OK , now i'm convinced..
my last chance is to download the 32 bit iso..
i never worked with bittorent, besides, i connect to interned via a proxy
i'm definitely a newbie in these stuffs...
abisko00 can u please tell me how to use bittorent ( which application, how to configure it) to download the isos, prefferrably from XP.
i'v tired t read about it, but it's kinda complicated for me
i'am very eager to try suse 9.3 and dump the XP forever...
i can't do it without ur help ...much less convince people around me to swich to linux and specifically suse..

Sorry, I am not familiar with bittorrent. But the release of the FTP version will be soon (I heard rumors that it will come this month).
