how to umount auto-mounted usb flashdisk by normal user

Using flashdisk in SUSE10 is so great, plug it and get it auto-mounted
and find the link in your GNOME desktop
how to umount it by normal user?
since it's mounted in /media/VOLUMENAME
and VOLUMENAME is variable(differs in each flashdisk)
it's saying that the mount entry is not in /etc/fstab

how to do it guys?
thx

USB devices are also umounted automatically. Make sure that you don't access the device anymore (close all windows) and that the activity indicator doesn't flash and simply unplug the device. To be on the safe side, try 'eject /media/VOLUMENAME'.

umount automatically? I heard this a couple of times before....
can you tell me the working of this automount? how can it mount it in /media/VOLUMENAME,etc... is it hald-subfs-mount? udev? can give me something about this? what about usign /etc/fstab? should i put this flashdisk entry in /etc/fstab?

typing eject works, the link in desktop is gone, but I think it's still a bit scary...
since /var/log/messages still shows that the kernel still reads it,and put some errors/warnings like unable to read partition tables, etc (when unplugging)
thx

No, unfortunately not. All I can tell is that this is done by submount/subfs. Have a look at the project page:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/submount/

You can still mount manually via fstab or command-line.

That's OK, as the USB drives are handled by hotplug, while floppy and CD drives are considered to be always there. This means that the entry for the USB drive is created temporarily. But you can still create one yourself...
