how to start dcopserver and recontact my cd drive

Hi

I have done something very nasty to my system. I tried setting up Glx last night and got no where. This morning when I tried to start KDE it would not load and gave me the message to check if dcopserver is turned on. How do I do this? a simple question but then so am I. I also appear to have lost contact with my CD/DVD drive. I tried to repair the system by loading the Suse install CD1 but it would not read and I went straight to the boot page i.e, where you choice the system you want loaded. It is a fine old mess I have got myself into, can someone help,. I cannot even try to reinstall KDE because I cannot get the cd to be read! At present I am using windowmaker.
