How many of you can burn a dvd iso in Suse 9.2

I made a post in the Software section but it seems no one knows how to enable burn proof in K3b... Anyways I wanted to find out how many of you can actually burn a dvd iso in K3b under Suse 9.2 with burn proof enabled. K3b in Fedora worked perfectly fine out of the box, why the hell is it so difficult in Suse? Is it missing a component or something thats preventing me from burning a dvd properly (more than 2x) and enabling burn proof? Fvcken a, cant believe Ive been trying for more than 3 days to get just my burner to work...

I think there may be a hard-limit imposed on the speed you can burn a dvd, but the limitation isn't in k3b per se. It is in one of the back-end programs that k3b uses to burn the dvd. I can't recall which one, however.

Thanks at least for confirming that, I will look into it. The weird thing is I have the option of checking burn proof when I record a CD image but the option is not there when I try to burn a dvd iso.

is it DVD + or - your using? could be a factor...and what is the manufacture of your burner? the package is dvd+rw tools btw..maybe getting a newer version from the package maintainer and removing the Suse supplied one might help...I can`t say I`ve tried to burn a DVD yet under Linux...but K3B says my burner supports burn-proof (Lite-on SOHW-1653S)

Im using 8X TDK DVD-R media on a NEC 6500A burner. Worked fine in Fedora after a fresh install so its Suse but I have yet to find a thread where someone has the same problem as me. Ive added all the sources to YaST for updates (Packman and Suse ftps) and theres no update from what I can see - the version I have is dvd+rw-tools 5.21.4.10.8-2.1. I can burn a dvd iso but the speed wont go over 2x and theres no option to enable burn proof.

ok i found a better and newer package for Suse for K3B seems Suse "left out" the K3BSetup2..which lets cdrecord and another package run as root so things burn better...maybe it will solve your problem http://packman.links2linux.de/index....ction=219&vn=1

Nope that version dosent work either, still no burn proof option. When I go under options>program>cdrdao in k3b, under features I see an option listed as "disable-burnproof". Any ideas?

Yes it does, grayed out though. Is the burnfree option supposed to be a selectable option like the Cdrdao driver?

OK, I was just a little impatient, shouldve waited till the entire disc finished. Burning in K3b starts at 2x, slowly rises to 4 then finally 6x (supposed to be 8x drive but I only get 6x speed even in windows too). Now the only problem left is burn proof is still not enabled and I have to manually detect the 6x speed everytime I burn a disc or itll burn only at 2x.

Man I don`t know but all the "Burnproof" stuff on Google goes straight to CD`s... I tried Burnproof DVD and their was ziltch. thinkin its a CD thing not DVD..and I have to enter my burn speed manually too..but hey its free software and it burns anything I wanna burn..so a little extra config ai`t that big a deal 4 me...and it`ll probably get upgraded so I won`t have to eventually...I dunno .. I don`t expect Nero-like updates for free software myself
