Assuming that kde is installed use yast2 do not us Qt yast
Yast2 > choice pattern Gnome it will install GNome
Other option down load the Gnome version or the DVD version

all the best

what do you mean by "choice pattern Gnome"
There is no package called gnome.
I just need the name of the meta package.

Yast2>software management>left side filter choice pattern>left side click Gnome and it will install Gnome
Or any other desktop you like to have
Hope this is clear enough if not feel free to post again

all the best

I would like to try that, but Suse broke entirely for no apparent reason, so I'll remove it.

I think what you are thinking of though is just a tab that shows you a selection of gnome programs. There's gnome, kde, office, multimedia...
right?

YAST -> Software -> Software Management. There is a drop down box that shows whether to lists packages as Patterns, Groups or Categories. Choose to view as Patterns if its not already selected and then go to the Graphical Environments section and choose GNOME.

cannot find gnome checkbox in yast

Hi, I am having the same problem.

When checking Yast2>software management>left side filter choice pattern>left side, only KDE and "minimal graphical install" are shown in the Desktops section. I cannot find the gnome-desktop checkbox as you mentions.

Could you please advise how can I install GNOME? I am using OpenSUSE 10.1.

If you have not installed Gnome yet
Try the following as ROOT on the commandline
Zypper install gnome-desktop
