How do I delete/erase/format DVD ISO setup disk?
From Konqueror:
Could not delete file /media/dvdram/SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-i386-GM-CD1.iso. From command line: linux:/home/justin # growisofs -Z /dev/dvdram=/dev/zero :-( /dev/dvdram: media is not recognized as recordable DVD: 9 linux:/media/dvdram # rm *.* rm: cannot remove `SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-i386-GM-CD1.iso': Read-only file system linux:/media/dvdram # rm *.* -f rm: cannot remove `SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-i386-GM-CD1.iso': Read-only file system |
Are you trying to execute the commands as normal user? You may not have proper permissions to do so. Try su to root, then try to delete the iso.

hmmm... are we talking about trying to delete and image that has already been burnt to a DVD+/-R ??
If so... it's there for good! time to start with a fresh disk... if it is re-writeable media (DVD-RW) then k3b will re-format it for you. |
It is CD-R, burnt by a DVD burner. I burned it. I didn't even burn it correctly. I burnt it as an .iso file instead of mirroring its contents. I've tried doing all of this kind of stuff - erasing, formatting, etc. - from k3b and still get the same results. Everything I have done from the command line has been from root. It is completely immune to being altered unless I can somehow turn off the read-only attribute that is programmed on there.
On a side note, it was burned on there by this program that came with the burner when I had Windows on my computer. Maybe Linux is not capable of detecting or changing this attribute. |

CD-R's only cost what, $0.50 tops... you can get a stack of 50 for less than $20.00 CAD here... I say cut your losses and start over. |
Yeah, but I want to use THIS ONE! :)

I'll respond over in your other thread.... (this is why you shouldn't cross-post)

Once again: Optical media are read-only. |
Note to all viewers! Since people keep calling so much attention to the fact that I have two, I repeat, TWO threads running with exactly the same content, I feel inclined to explain myself, and remind you all, once again, that I have TWO threads running at the same time! With the exact same content! In two different forums!
After waiting 16 hours with no reply, I decided that this was probably long enough to wait before I should be able to post the question in another thread, without fear of being admonished for wasting people's time on such a newbie question. Granted, not everybody checks the times and dates of when such threads are initiated before they attempt to admonish them, or joke about it, or sensationalize it, just for the sake of calling it to more people's attention, or possibly trying to gain brownie points by calling it to the right people's attention. Nevertheless, I hope you actually got something out of the time that it took for you read this. |
