Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Network Setup in Suse 9.3 Pro, What am I missing?
I have 9.3 Pro intalled. The computer has an MSI K8N MOBO with Dual 1GB Ethn ports. It recognizes them ok but I can't seem to get onthe internet. My home network hase a Linksys router with DHCP turned off. I assigned Eth0 an address that is open, and the gateway was 192.168.1.1 .
When I'm in the network configuration menu, I selected "Detailed Settings"
This brought up a screen where there is room to put a name in for the "Host Name" and the "Domain Name". Does there have to be anything in these spaces? I'm a little confused at this part. I'm not using this as a server yet. On the same screen there are 2 colums. "Name Server" & "Domain Search List" There is room for 3 "Name servers" and 3 "Domain Search"
I entered my router's IP address (which is is the same as the gateway address) into "Name Server 1" I did not do anyting else. It doesn't seem to work with this config. Am I missing something?
Also when I go to the details of the card it says active "yes", configured. "no"....
If you are behind router:
1. host name = your computer name - enter the name you wish (remember about limitations)
2. Domain Name = empty
3. Name Server = IP addresses of your ISP (one or two) fill out what you need leave rest empty (if you have only one ISP DNS IP address then enter it and leave rest empty)
