How can I find out after the installation if I have the final version

Just as the topic said. I want to control if I have installed some beta version or the final Suse 9.2.

Where did the disk come from? Does it say BETA on it? AFAIK, there are no betas, it's all or nothing. If you are still unsure, update your distro - that'll resolve it

I downloaded all five isos from e-mule and now I have problems connecting to internet, so I still cannot make an update. I just wonder if I can with a simple command verify if this really is the final release.

http://www.novell.com/products/desktop/eval.html is the Personal Edition
It appears that there is no official download site for the Professional version - beyond using a live cd.

Since you didn't get an 'official' version, there's not much of a way to verify how good or bad it is. What errors are you getting?

Ask someone what kernel version is used in boxed SuSE 9.2 and compare it to your version. The command is

Code:
uname -r
But there is no BETA version of SuSE 9.2 (it may be called 9.1 )!

What I have heard there are beta and prereleases. See http://distrocenter.linux.com/articl...tid=23&tid=128

I have the same bug: "Could not start Process: Unable to create IO-slave: Klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'devices.'" The worst is I cannot connect to internet, but I have this question open in another forum, Linux iso.

There could be those prereleases out there in e-mule thatīs why I wanted to check what I have downloaded. If anyone can give me the kernelnumber of the boxed Suse 9.2 so I can compare. Just now Iīm writing this from windows.

That's really interesting! I have never heard about that.

You could also download SuSE9.2 LiveCD to check the version. It should be the same as in the final version. Then you may also compare versions of other packages (with rpm -q <package>)

Maybe you could update KDE, using the Yast sources from the SuSE FTP server. Or wait until mid of january, then the FTP version will be released.

BTW: you could have a look in the src directory of 9.2 for the kernel (and other) versions:

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.2/suse/src

It's kernel-2.6.8-24 ! Meanwhile updated with YOU to 2.6.8-24.5
