hardware compatibility
Hello,
I am sure there used to be a page on the Suse site that listed hardware compatibility...can anyone point me to it, I am trying to see if this...
ASRock K8Upgrade-VM800 VIA K8M800 w/Audio, Video, LAN, SATA, DDR400 +AMD Sempron 2600+ (64-Bit)
will work with either Suse 9.2, or 10....

There is a hardware database, but it is far from being up-to-date (the last time I used it). You better have a look in the LQ HCL.

Vm800
I was cleaning out some old boxes and found an old motherboard, the one mentioned in this post. Since other LQ members might also have some old motherboards, I gave it a try with some nearly current distributions to see what would work...I was able to run the Fedora Core 12 distribution liveCD. Then I tried a harddrive that had Suse 12 on it, and it looks like it does not recognize the harddrive controller...but that could be because it was installed on another motherboard...so it might not have the right initrd for VM800.
I tried the installation cd for Suse 12, and it booted up fine and recognized the same harddrive! This would make me think that it is the initrd that needs to be updated. Since I have some extra space on the harddrive, I will try to install Suse 12 from the VM800 motherboard and will update this post with the results. So, if you have this old motherboard in a box, you can use it.

ASRock V8Upgrade VM800:
OpenSUSE 11.2
Fedora Core 12
Both of these distributions installed and ran. I didn't check everything, but they booted, connected to the internet, and seemed fine.
Does someone know why this motherboard BIOS does not have options for memory test?
