Saikee - As a real Linux newbie, I found this whole thread very interesting. I can do all sorts of things with XP (and every previous version of Windows back to 3.2). In Linux, I am still learning the basics like I didn't know that Grub used different nomenclature for the disks ....

I can see this forum is likely to be of great educational benefit to me. Thanks for the step by step explanation.

I See what you mean. 18 HDDs? Wow. I have a couple of spare HDDs that I try things out on and boot them via BIOS swapping as you discussed.

Although I am running SuSE 10.3 64-bit at the moment, in the last couple of months, I have tried Mandriva, Fedora 8, PC Linux, Ubuntu and put Linux on a 4Gb USB drive, so I'm coming along! Won't be catching up with your distro's list though.

I'll work through your signature links and get back to you if there's anything I can't handle or I mess up, but I guess this thread is probably not the place to keep the conversation going.
