Gnome themes - I can't install them?

So, I've gotten tired of the Gnome standard look, and I want to install a new one.
I've downloaded several themes from gnome-look.org, but I have no idea how to install them, it says that the files (tar.gz) are invalid, do they need to go somewhere special, do the need to be unpacked?

Heeelp!
This is a simple problem, but I just can't make it work.
Thanks a lot all.

Unpack the tarballs and copy the contents into /usr/share/themes (to make them globally available) or into /home/(username)/.themes/ (to make them only available to you)

Not intor directories?

So should they just be "lying" about in the dirs?

should turn out to be something like /usr/share/themes/(themename)/(content)
