Gnome Sound Events
 

I cannot get sound events to work in Gnome. At first I was having a problem w/ the builtin mb sound playing any sound, but I disabled it and put in an old SoundBlaster Live. I could not get sound events to run. I just finished reinstalling v9.2 Pro (Gnome/metacity, no KDE) and found that if I login as 'root' I have sound events, but if I login as a regular user... nothing. I added the user to the audio group and tried different permissions and ownships of the /opt/gnome/share/sounds, but no joy. I even copied the files to the home directory and found that I cannot even play wav files.

Has anybody else resolved something like this?
