GNome/GTK2 installation

I am a Linux Newbie. I am trying to develop X Window applications using Suse Linux 9.1 personal edition.
I tried installing GTK from ftp.suse.org. But I never seem to get the list of packages to install so as to avoid all conflicts. I know its a long list (GTK gtk-devel, gtk -engines, libgnome, lingnomeui, libgnome-devel, libgnome ui-devel etc). Can anybody suggest me, the best way to install GNome/GTK2 or the list of packages I need to install.
Thanks in advance.

The easiest way is to add an online repository that provides those packages. You can then simply install the package through YaST and dependencies will be solved automatically. Have a look at this old thread:

Thanks a lot Abisk. It really helped. All along I used to take hours to download each of the dependencies for any project.
I could successfully install GTK+.
