Hi there:
I installed Open SUSE 10.0 (downloaded) and it seems to have several limitations. Firstly I am not able to install other software straight on. Actually no other software installation works: Thunderbird, Fax software, etc. It was supposed to be an open free, easy to work on update, etc.
SUSE 10.0 came with Firefox 1.08. I am not able to run CNN videos (among others) with it and tried to update to Firefox 1.5 or better. Suse, or Firefox itself, do not accept the update and after reboot returns to 1.08. The problems persist.
I am not a computer expert, but I like to fiddle with softwares that I use to optimize my work.
Can anyone suggest how to update Firefox and other software, or suggest a more friendly LINUX OS or distro?
Thanks
stebal

Reason: Where is the Tag option?
Hi:
I will try to install with YaST. However, shoudn't installation be straight forward with the software's (Firefox) install file?
Thanks. I appreciate your help.
Hi:
You are right. I should be able to install Firefox's new version using Tar.gz, but it does not work.
When I try to run CNN videos in Firefox I get a message "No Windows Media Player Detected" and a request to install MP. which it does not install anyway.
I would appreciate more suggestions.
In the last one a method to solve the problem is proposed, only that it does not work for me since I cam not able to update Firefox for some reason.
Thank you
Distribution: PCLinuxOS 2007 on my laptop and Suse 10.2 on my desktop.

I installed Firefox 2 on my SUSE 10.0 laptop today. I downloaded the file, and unzipped it on the desktop.
I then went to ~./Mozilla/ in my home directory (you need to select 'view hidden files to see this) and renamed the 'Firefox' folder 'Firefox old'. Firefox works as a completely 'stand-alone' installation, so you don't have to worry about Yast set-up.
Next, you copy the 'Firefox' folder that you unzipped to your desktop and put it in the ./Mozilla folder.
If you then run Firefox in the normal way, the new version runs. You will need to copy over your old bookmarks, preferences, skins etc but that is the way I did it!
I also swapped the profile to my old one. It all works lovely.
