Expired user account?

Hi all,

Runnins SuSE 9.2

As far as I can tell the account that I normally login/SSH as has expired (I can still login and SSH as root). I can change the account's password with YaST, but regardless of what I set it to when I try to SSH as that user it says the user expired. Interestingly enough, when I'm logged in as root in shell, I can't run passwd to change that user's password; it says the account has expired (a message I do not get from YaST).

So, how do I fix this? TYIA for the help.

using this command as root
passwd -h

you have option to unlock, and trouble shooting (I feel easier than yast).
At the same time, preview the content of /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow everytime after you change particular setting.

Hmmm, when I try to run "passwd -u [user account]" as root, I get a "Cannot unlock the password for [`user account']!" error. I can't change the password, and when I run passwd -h I get "Password changed". I'm wondering if my tinkering with YaST bolloxed things up. Any other advice would be most appreciated (btw, when setting up new accounts how do I avoid this in the future?).
