I received an email with a 29mb attachment.
Evolution freezes when trying to display it, saying "Formatting message..."
I am trying to delete the message via the filesystem (outside of evolution)
As root, I go to /home/my_username/.evolution/mail/local/ and i see the mail folders,
but i don't see messages.
Where are the messages?
One thing you could try is to turn off the preview pane in Evolution. Another thing you could do, is open the ~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox file with another email reader (kmail, mozilla-mail, etc), and delete the large email message. The last (and least desirable) alternative is to open the Inbox file (see earlier path) with a text editor that can handle large files (Vim, Emacs), move to the end of the file, and search backwards for the message. It will take some time if you have received new messages, or hanve not expunged your inbox in a while, or your inbox is quite large (mine is over 400M). Your editor may also take a little time to open the file, as it has to parse the entire file to be able to search and edit.
what i ended up doing was using mutt to open the Inbox and deleting the file.
thanks.
