ciao
well I installed hylafax and i would like to start the services automatically, i found some instruction in the web and it says:
is possible to configure the system for automatic starting of services:
a) with root privileges edit the file /etc/rc.local adding usr/local/sbin/hylafax start and usr/local/sbin/faxmodem ttyS0 (i found them in /usr/sbin)
b) edit the file /etc/inittab and insert
S0:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0
i cannot find /etc/rc.local , where i have to add this commands??
"i cannot find /etc/rc.local , where i have to add this commands??"
How you start services automatically is distribution dependent. The instructions that you found on the web are for Red Hat. In your question you asked how to do it on SuSE 9.1. In your profile you state that you are using Mandrake 9.1. The answer that I give should work on SuSE 9.1.
Try adding the commands in /etc/init.d/boot.local. You should find some SuSE comments in /etc/init.d/boot.local
sorry to not update my profile ,
I passed to suse and use mdk for playng my child to potato man, he likes very much,
I read the comments of suse on /etc/init.d/boot.local and I will try this.
many thanks
ciao pierluigi
Just a SuSE hint: you could use Yast to configure the automatic start of hylafax (if you are not click-o-phobic ). Use Yast -> System -> Runlevel Editor in 'Expert Mode'
thanks i'm not clik-o-phobic i succeed to start automatically hylafax using Yast -> System -> Runlevel Editor in 'Expert Mode' clicking on hylafax but i don't know if usr/local/sbin/faxmodem ttyS0 start too, how can i check this??
You could check if it is running with 'ps ax | grep faxmodem' and if it doesn't, add the command to /etc/init.d/boot.local like jailbait suggested in post#2.
hi
A small tip to create rc.local in SuSE
login as root
cd /etc/init.d
create a file called rc.local e.g pico rc.local
first line of rc.local should be
#! /bin/sh
next type your commands that you want to start after the os starts
save the file
type chmod +x rc.local
if you start the system in init5 type
cd rc5.d
ln -svf ../rc.local S99rc.local
the next time that you start your PC the rc.local will run automaticaly
if you start the system in text mode (init3)
change the rc5.d to rc3.d
