/etc and suse v. freebsd

been a Suse user for years.
Just installed FreBSD 5.3 for a try.

find /etc -type f | wc
313 files.

Suse 9.0
over four and a half THOUSAND! (yes THOUSAND)

Hmmm.

On my system (9.1), I have 2500 files and folders in /etc, where kde and gnome are using almost half of them.

This looks normal to me...I think SuSE just has a bit of bloat these days
