Error from YaST Online Update

I'm a newbie to Linux and Suse.

After I installed the Suse Pro 9.2 and run the YaST Online Update first time, the error message come up:

Unable to read the directory './i386/update/9.2/patches'.

Then I checked the Update Configuration, the Installation Source is "User-Defined Location" and Location field is empty.

Would anyone help me in this issue?

Thanks for your help. Great linux on Suse!!!

Sorry everyone, I've fixed this problem already by myself.

Thanks.

Sorry that I have the other problem: the server list in YaST Online Update cannot be saved. Every time I update should enter the server address again manually.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Can you post how you fixed it so it can maybe help other people who might have the same problem?

??? - Enter server again? Where you saw "User defined" there should be about half a dozen different choices. Each of those is tied to a different mirror. You shouldn't need to type in the server at all. If you do, you will want to enter the path to a mirror at the "suse" level. for example: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/

The path you choose should have an i386 directory in it. (it's a truncated version of the same path you would use for an ftp install).

It's pity that I only can choose "User defined" option and there is no other choices. When every first time I run the YaST Online Update, the error will appear:

Could not write server list to disk.
No detail available.

Any idea?

Randon,

I just simply type the path to a mirror at the "suse" level. For example,

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/
ftp://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/suse/

Hmmm. It could be a permissions issue. I'll see if I can find the file that those are stored in. It's too late to deal with now (besides, I have a test tomorrow).

Would anyone know this issue? I need to type the address everytime I update the SUSE ...

I found the file. Actually, I found it twice:

Quote:

/var/lib/YaST2/you/youservers
/home/gd2shoe/.yast2/you/youservers
(Note the caps, and lack thereof.)
This file should exist on your system, and look somewhat the same. I suspect the one in /home is less important, and is probably used by suse watcher.

Edited to remove auto urls.

Yes, I found these two files and all the links are correct, but I still got the error:

Could not write server list to disk.
No details available.

Any idea?

Anyone have the idea about this problem?

Thanks.

Check the permissions. It should be: -rw-r--r-- One is owned by root:root and the other by (your id here):users.

Also, if one of these is not on your root partition, the fstab could give you problems (not likely, but it is possible).
