Enabling 3D and hardware acceleration on Vmware Windows Guests
Hi there
If you run Windows Virtual machines on OPENSUSE 13.1 you might have had some problems in getting the 3D and hardware acceleration features to work - these make for much better video / games etc on the Windows guest virtual machine
This should work with the NVIDIA drivers as well -- my machine is INTEL based with the INTEL HD driver - the standard video from OPENSUSE works just fine.
You need to do the following.
1) in the vmx virtual machine configuration file check the box enable 3D.
2) in the vm config file add mks.enable3d="TRUE"
3) also add line mks.gl.allowBlacklistedDrivers="TRUE"
Make sure also tyhe following packages (in addition to the one's required to install vmware) are installed
package libtxc_dxtn this enables S3TC
package dkms
This should also fix the transparent application menus you see when running Windows 8.1 in Unity mode -- note though some of those wretched "Metro" apps will need to be closed as they sometimes start automatically when in unity mode - particularly the Store -- well it's Microsoft probably looking for more money.
Cheers
