DVD Read issue in xine and mplayer

I have an odd problem. I have both Xine and Mplayer installed on my computer. When I put in a standard encrypted DVD, Xine and Mplayer play it just fine. For Xine all I have to do is click the DVD button, for Mplayer all I have to do is right click and click on the DVD button. When I put in a DVD that I decrypted and compressed to 4.3 GB, it won't play. This DVD plays just fine using Power DVD on Windows XP and on my stand-alone Toshiba DVD player. If I click on the DVD rom icon, I can play each VOB file individually. However, I cannot control the chapter to chapter switch as easily this way.

Things that have been suggested and that I have tried.

1. Playing logged in as root. (Doesn't work, I didn't think it would since it obviously isn't a permission error and encrypted DVDs play just fine even as a regular user.)

2. Adjusting symbolic links. (I've tried this again and again, obviously not the problem since encrypted DVDs play fine)

3. Stick with Windows. (No way man. I put too much effort into learning Linux.)

Any ideas anyone?

Compressed DVD9 format is slightly spooky and not a standard. Here are the formats:

I have never been able to get a compressed DVD to play on a non-windows machine, and many times not on stand-alone DVD players. If you find out the format of the DVD and it's variation from standards, please post it. I'd like to know why it sucks so hard.
