his long post looks like it was just cut and pasted from the mplayer web site directions to compile from the source (this is the best way to do it as you get all the needed libraries but I found this difficult and frustrating in suse.) but he also says that he doesn't have mplayer set up himself i may still have a copy of libdvdcss laying around for suse 9.2 that would probably work for 10.0

Could someone please give me a set of instructions of where the downloads I need are and what order they need to be installed in.
regards Alan.

This web page has every thing you need, including step by step directions. The very first part is a little techy but the step by steps are more understandable. At the end of the page are links to all the RPMs you need. You can probably ignore the SRC packages. Also, rather than going to the command line to run "rpm" you can download the files and install them one by one in the order outline in the step by step by clicking on RPM file. Konqueror will pop up with a button to install with YaST. Note that with 10.0 the logical name for the DVD is already setup. Turning on the DVDs DMA can be done by running YaST, clicking Hardware and then IDE DMA mode. Command line isn't required. The step by step uses command line so that the same directions work with older versions of SuSE. Until you become familiar with Linux, only use command line to view things, all configuration and download is best done with YaST because it will insure that all relating parameters are set. With command line you can do only part of the job and not be aware except that the desired application or function doesn't run.
