Dual monitors in Suse 10?

Guys, I'm a complete n00b, I have 2 monitors hooked to my dual out ATI 9600. The displays (which have become hard to configure even in Windows) are Dell Flat panels, but one is 17 inch LCD with a max res is 1280 X 1024 and the other is a 15 @ 1024X 768.

I have video on the 17, but nothing on the 15. How do I get this to work??

I have a Nvidia card which has a Linux driver
Whilst there are some probs getting the card to work initially you do get a Dual Head option in YAST when you configure the card and it works fine.

(For Nvidia users --use the Linux driver from the Nvidia site not the default one included with the SUSE distro)

Have a look at the screenshot here.

ATI might have a similar system. Have no experience with that card.

I don't get the dual head option in YAST. I have downloaded and installed the ATI drivers, and still nothing. This is the only thing preventing m,y from using linux full time.

I don't have the ATI card so I can't check it for you -- does the documentation with the ATI card give any help on Dual Head and Linux -- try googling to see if someone else has got it working on another distro. If they have you might be able to copy the Xorg.conf file from that distro.

Once you get the Nvidia cards to work they are great -- but some people have had probs with these as well.

Sorry I can't be of any more help here other than saying Dual Head definitely DOES work if you can find a driver for your card.

Ok, I've found if I ramp my resoloution down to 1024 then both monitors work, but only in a mirrored mode.

I've been having issues with my ati fireGL v3100 in suse 10. Seems to be something specific to 10 (at least to me) because 9.3 worked fine for me, but that's another issue.

try this in the terminal as root since the driver is installed.
fglrxconfig (or flgrxconfig - I can't remember which one is right). If it doesn't work try downloading the "ati driver installer" (a *.run not the rpm).

./ the *.run file from the terminal (make it an executable if you need to) and either install it as is or create an rpm for SuSE.

after the install run fglrxconfig (or flgrxconfig - I can't remember which one is right) from the terminal as root, and configure it for your setup. It will give you the ability to specify resolutions along with many other options for your card. Some of it is technical, but there are defaults so that helps.

hope you can use this
