Talking Dual Boot + No GRUB = Help me!

Hi there!

I got my self some nasty Registry/kernel based spyware on my Windows side, and decided, since I only use windows for the internet, I would just wipe the system and not waste time fixing it myself. Anyway, in the process of doing this the System Restore on my PC deleted or, maybe just installed over GRUB and I have no way to boot into linux. I dont have a floppy drive, or any removable media I could devote to a linux boot drive, heh, and I'm out of CD's/DVD's. If there is any way to boot to linux otherwise please tell me, else, please tell me how to make a boot CD and I'll get off my lazy butt and go buy some...

Anyway, anyones two cents would be appreciated!

Thanks...

Your friendly neighborhood cardinals fan.

This question had been asked so many times.
And if you seeking for the answer on other thread, you will see that any solution require a linux live CD.
You don't need to have the full install disks.
You need a disk which can give you a linux console so that you can reinstall grub.
Get that CD and I will tell you more.

Try system-repair. This is available on your installation CD/DVD:
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/1...em-Repair.html

EDIT: Oh, you don't have this anymore? Then you need to do the LiveCD thing: Boot from CD, re-write bootloader.

Thank you abisko, and Truong, I Have searched and searched, read so many posts, Im positive its out there, but with my limited linux knowledge I wasn't so sure what keywords to use. I asked for answers, not flames. I am also on a dial-up connection, a live CD is about impossible. Thanks...

@Abisko, I DO have the CDs, I am out of blank ones, is what i meant in my post. I will do that, thanks again.

Just use your suse 10.0 install cd and when you get to the part where it asks do you want to install upgrade there is a button below the window that says advanced thats just a guess I can't really remember what it says. The rest should be self explanatory from that point forward. Post back exactly how you do it for others who may have this problem.

If you were using linux instead of windows for internet you wouldn't have this problem though. May want to ditch internet on windows. I wouldn't even allow it to connect.

This problem will be easy if you can get to a linux console.
It don't need to be your current console, just any console.
You should buy any live CD.
After this problem, I suggest erase window

Truong... you dont quite get it...I have fixed it thanks to abisks easy answer, that didnt require me to use my nonexistant credit card to buy a linux live CD, I would use linux for the internet, If DSL/Cable was avalible in my area OR I had something other than a linmodem. I love linux, I use it for everything, but I cant get around the fact that I have a winmodem that doesnt work under linux <Dont flame me with links to driver download sites> and dont flame me on how I should just go out and buy a $100 external modem on the money that grows on trees, Im 15 years old for gods sake, I dont have money.

@mojojo, What I did was exactly what abisko told me to do -.- He/she? Is the only one who actually provided me with an answer.....not a flame.

Thanks guys... you're great -.-

I flamed you?
How can you say so.
Abisks give you an instruction, so do I.
The only matter is I choose a solution which difference to his.
So why did you think that I had flamed you?
I suggest you to buy a new LiveCD disk since I think that it is the easiest solution to get a disk and rewrite the MBR
Abisks talked a bootable disk, too.
You don't have a credit card to buy a disk. May be true.
But is it true that a disk cost too much in your country for a friend of yours to lend you the money.
How much does a CD cost in your country?

However, our suggestion didn't fix your conditions, sorry.
Abisks' suggestion worked for you, congratulation.
But we had flamed you, no we hadn't

I think he thought we were flaming him because we said get rid of windows? Well the name of this website is LINUXquestions.org most of us left windows because of the problem you (Cards_STL) noted above in your original post. I told you not to let it connect to the internet that was not a flame. He (TruongAn) told you to get rid of windows. Why that is a little extreme it would solve all problems with spyware/virus's etc..... So next time don't accuse someone on a linux forum of flaming you because they say something negative about windows. We have had the shitz of windows and that is the best advice we can offer get rid of it. Or enjoy reformatting and reinstalling once a month.
