usr/java does not exit in my file system!

Obviously it is in another location and that is why I keep getting a broken link. I just need to know what to look for and how to set it all up. Sun's directions are no good.

My jre1.5.0 is located in:

/usr/lib/jvm/jre1.5.0 ------- My mozilla is in: /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins ------- I also have a /usr/lib/browser-plugins, which has my kaffeine, flash player, realplayer, which ALL work! Based on all this, I entered the following: ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/jre1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so ----- I know for a fact that this file DEFINITELY exists. I went through the file system and found it. I entered the above command in terminal in /usr/lib/browser-plugins. When it was installed, I checked it and it said broken link - does not exist. Now how the hell can it say it does not exist when I FOUND IT!!!!! I also tried the same command in terminal /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins, and got the same result. There must be someone here who knows why this is happening. I only have java-1.5.0_03 installed. When I look in my file system /usr/lib, I find java 1.4.....and other Java files. Are they part of the 1.5.0_03? Thanks

Please stop telling me what you have done and what is installed and describing what steps you took and what you found, show me instead, post the output from the commands;

rpm -qa 'jre*'

locate libjavaplugin_oji.so

FYI: Sun's instruction are good!

I tried both commands.

The RPM one did nothing, and the locate libjavaplugin_oji.so had an error not found.

Then you did not get the sun java rpm installed, hence your problem.

It is not that hard,

Download the jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586-rpm.bin file.

Become root by running the su command and entering the super-user password.

Change directory to where the downloaded file is located and type;

chmod a+x jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586-rpm.bin

./jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586-rpm.bin

Note that the initial "./" is required.

Agreed to the license (type yes)

Type; cd /usr/lib/browser-plugins

Type;
Code:
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so ./libjavaplugin_oji.so
To verify installation and the symbolic link type;

cd

rpm -qa 'jre*'

locate libjavaplugin_oji.so

Expected sample results;

$ rpm -qa 'jre*'
jre-1.5.0_06-fcs

$ locate libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
(Note yours should be /usr/lib/browser-plugins here)
/usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so

OK, I deleted the old Java files I got off YAST.

I then did everything you said. Everything went exactly as you said it would. All results were as stated EXCEPT for the "locate libjavaplugin_oji.so". The result came back as no command found. The libjavaplugin that is now in my "browser-plugins" file directory is now a working file. Its no longer a "broken link". Thats an improvement. Thanks for your perfectly detailed/easy to follow instructions. Hopefully the mozilla-java link is not a big problem to fix. Thanks, Doug

I GOT IT!!!! Finally. Geeezzz

I went into my file system and saw that "libjavaplugin_oji.so" was in the browser-plugins file and operational. I then went into the " /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins" file and saw that it was missing from the rest of my other plugins. I also went into the file"/opt/MozillaFirefox/lib/plugins" and noticed it was also missing from there. So, I opened up each one of those files in root and entered the exact same command you told me to put in. The libjavaplugin_oji.so files appeared, and I went to Java online and tested it out and presto! Thanks ALOT for all your help!! Good advice>>>>ONLY download the RPM file from SunMs online. If you do it through Yast with the FTP transfers, it is a pain in the ass. All other downloads on there are fine though.

Good I'm glad for you. A working java plugin is a nice thing to have.
