Does SUSE have synaptic like program?
 

I am currently using Ubuntu....I just upgraded to 5.04 from 4.10 and am having some problems with programs that I use. So I figured it would be a good time to try a new flavor of Linux. One thing I love about Ubuntu is synaptic....tons of open source software is downloadable and installable automatically at the click of a button. I've heard ALOT of good things about SUSE 9.3 so my questions is, does Suse have a program similar to synaptic? I know it has Yast, but does Yast have repositories that access all kinds of open source software (including software not on original OS DVD) for download and install? ....or is it all just the software on the OS installation DVD only updated? This is a key issue for me because I always try out new programs....THANKS for the help

Most of what you will find on the official YaST repositories is going to be updates to software on the disks. You can however add your own repository to the list and sites such as Packman can be added that do have more software. I know there are two or three other software sites that can be used as repositories but unfortunately I usually compile most of my extra programs from tar files so I can't really give you addresses.

It does have a apt like program (and 10 will support yum repositories as well) but there are very few apt repositories for Suse.
