Display Problem in Suse 9.2

I just installed Suse 9.2 on my mother's new desktop. I installed the base packages with KDE desktop. Every was fine. I decided to change the display resolution from 1024x768 to 1248x768 and restrated kdm. The problem is that my flat screen monitor will display at 1248x768. Now when kdm starts, my monitor just goes black and display a message "cannot display at this mode".

Is there some way I can change the resolution setting without going ingo KDE? I tried using the "rescue system" option but I'm not actually sure where to start. I need to get this fix before my mother decides that she want windows back on her computer. HELP.

You can type a plain '3' when the grub menu appears. Then the system will boot into runlevel 3 where you can login as root and start sax2. This will allow configuration of your graphics card. You can test the settings by typing startx. The next reboot will bring you to the graphical login again.
