Unhappy Disk is keep spining. What is wrong ?

I installed Suse 10.0 recently and am getting weird problem.
My HDD is keep spinning over an hour and free space in '/' getting smaller and smaller. So, I dug in directories and found a huge file , kcore, in '/proc' directory. The size of the file is about 1.1 GB. What is this file for ?

Also there are couple of error messages in a console logged in as root.
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header read failed, error=104
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header has invalid size (-1)

What do these errors mean ?

Not really sure, but you maybe you should run fsck to check the drive for errors.

Remember to unmount the drive first.

kcore is the file which is a image of the RAM. Has the same size of the RAM.
