I am probably missing something really obvious here, but I checked in the SuSE help files, and looked on here, and poured through all the menus and configures I could find...I don't see a way to change the text under the icons. I see how to change the font, and I found the icon size itself in the Icon Advanced section, but is there a way to make the text under them align differently? SOme center, some don't...? How about compress the empty space between them? And maybe, a way to set the number of icons per row or set where they align... IE straight against the side of the screen instead of like 25 pixels from the side and down from the top?
I assume you are using KDE on SUSE? You likely are by default. As far as I know there is no easy way to do what you ask. It is possible there is a hidden config file somewhere in .kde in your home directory that contains these details but not in a fancy GUI that I know of.
And while i am a bit surprised it is massively difficult, or at least hidden, at least that means I didn't miss anything obvious. I may try scouring the net awhile to try and find a way, because I really like the smaller icon size, but now the text shows up as not aligning properly, and there is a lot of space in between the icons... it's really weird.

Umm, I'm doing this from memory, as far as I remember you can manage this in the KDE-controlcenter.
An other possibility is the right click on the desktop, there is an entry like "grid-spacing" or some such, which determines the distance of the icons (in pixels?).
The text-content can be changed by right-clicking on a symbol and editing its labelling.
