desktop/menu shortcuts

Hi,
I've just installed Python on my Suse 10.1 distro. How do I set up a shortcut to it on the desktop or even add it onto the applications menu. I can't even find an icon for it!!!

Also, how do i switch between the gnome and kde desktops?

Thanks for the help,
Tim
