Deleting desktop icons in KDE

I'm running SUSE 10.0 and was wondering if I can safely delete all the icons that are located on the desktop, and just access programs from the K MENU instead. I know in Windows that some of the icons on the desktop are not "just icons" but are in fact programs (or executables) and that deleting them can damage the system. How is this in SUSE? Can I just delete any icon I don't wan't?

Thanks to anyone who answers :-)

Yes. Delete anything that you feel like deleting. The only thing that you might have trouble deleting is the trash bin. You might have to do that as root.
