Connecting to a wireless access point automatically on startup

Hi there everyone,

I am now dual booting SUSE and Ubuntu on my laptop after getting my hands on SUSE 9.3 Professional. Very nice distro. Anyway, in Ubuntu I had my Linksys wireless card configured so that I could automatically connect to "preferred" networks as soon as they were detected, with WEP keys and everything saved so it was all very convenient. I just spent a long time configuring ndiswrapper on SUSE and it works well now. I added a line to /etc/init.d/boot.local so that the ndiswrapper module is initiated on startup. The only thing left is to get my computer to automatically attempt to connect to a particular wireless access point immediately on the computer's startup. Is there an efficient way of doing this in SUSE?

Thanks in advance!

I, too, would like to know. I have to manually input my passphrases everytime and it's kind of annoying. Wish there was an option to save a wireless profile.

I'm not sure if this will help.

I use ndiswrapper with a netgear card. After setting the key and then essid, I found that bringing the connection down, and then restarting had the desired effect. The key and essid were set only once when I was setting up. It seem sticky now.

At any rate, this is what I added to the boot sequence:

modrpobe ndiswrapper
ifdown wlan0
dhcpcd wlan0

Good luck!
