In SUSE9.1, the interaction of submount/subfs and usb storage devices doesn't work very smooth. I would recommend to switch-off subfs for hotplugable devices and mount the camera the classical way.

You may then create an fstab entry for your camera. The only problem with this method appears if you have several usb-storage devices that you plug-in in different order. I will happen that the devicenames change depending on the order of detection.
But try mikedeatworlds suggestion first. Digikam works quite well on my system.
