configuring terminal so not to show full path

I've (very) recently - like just yesterday - switched over to Linux at home because I've found myself using it at University and had taking a liking to it.

My question is how do you turn off the option whereby the full path of your current directory is displayed on every line of the terminal?

When I start a shell, i get
"anth@linux:~>"

then if i change directory to /uni i get
"anth@linux:~/uni>

Thanks.
