configure wireless from terminal

silly question but i am accustom to configuring the wireless from the command line. typicly in knoppix gentoo and slackware
#netcard config
for some reason suse does not recognize this command is there one that replaces it or is there none at all? it is easy to do in yast but from the command line takes two seconds and i don't know, just for some reason like it better.
any help would be nice or have i just completely over looked the command to use. i like to change distros on regularly to just learn the workings of all i have noticed that fedora/redhat does not like the basic command as well. is there a second standard?

that program simply does not exist on the system you're trying to run it on. i would recomend using iwconfig anyway, even on your knoppix, gentoo and slackware systems.

# iwconfig eth1 essid NETWORKNAME key xxxxxxxxxxxxx
# pump -i eth1

of course make sure its the right interface (eth0, eth1, wlan0)
