Computer Name

Hi,

I am running SUSE 9.1 Pro, with KDE 3.2. I was wondering if anyone knew how to set/change the name of the computer. When I look at the DHCP clients table in my router's admin panel, my linux server is listed as "linux" How do I change this name?

Thanks so much for the help!

SuSE sets up your computer's name in the file /etc/HOSTNAME. You can check the current name with:
echo $HOSTNAME

Zebe:

I forget EXACTLY how in the 9.1 because I have been running 9.3 for a while but I remember that I had to go and adjust mine at one time when I DID have 9.1, so it CAN be adjusted.

I am directing you as if you had 9.3, but you should be able to pick your way through this using your 9.1 and figuring out the little differences.

With 9.3 now, I would go to Kmenu -> Control Center -> YaST2 modules -> Network Devices -> Network Card

Sign in as Administrator, at the bottom-right click on 'Change' to change your 'Already Configured Devices', at the bottom-center click on 'Edit' to edit your 'Network Card Configuration', and under 'Host Name and Name Server' you would name it as you wish. You may need to reboot the system afterward for the changes to take effect since it deals with you network configuration.

Let me know if this helps you.
