craigevil

how did you manage to install superkaramba..?
when i tried - at the end of ./configure it informed me unable to compile and that it needed libs/headers from python..
i used the 0.37-RC1 version..

craigevil 08-23-2005 12:56 PM

I couldn't get it to complie either. So I grabbed the rpm from www.kde-look.org
ean it and it installed just fine.

captain skywave 08-23-2005 02:41 PM

i just tried the same version as yourself - superkaramba RC2 for 10.0 - and it didn't work..
i also just noticed that it's an i686 - so you must be running a 32 bit 10.0..?
i run 64bit
i'll have to wait till the guys comes up with a 64bit version

after several attempts to install superkaramba-0.37-RC2 for 10.0 via yast i still didn't succeed..

i was browsing around in the menu and found the kpackage program..
opening this program i browsed to the dir where i downloaded the superkaramba rpm..
then i made an install - and after a little while the installation went through..

when i looked in the menu under utilities there certainly was the superkaramba icon..
so i opened - and the karamba window opened and asked for the usual choice of theme..
i browsed to my local dir for themes and selected the lwp-8.3.skz..
it opened alright - but it's just a black square..
i can rightclick and open the little menu to toggle etc..
only - the configure is shaded out - so i cannot do anything..

any suggestions on how to make the window visible..?

Captain , same problem here. i downloaded a couple of themes and they both show up as a black box on the desktop. I haven't tried playing around with it to much. But any theme I try shows up as a just a black box.

On my Debian system the themes work but all of them have black backgrounds no matter which background I choose. Might be a bug.

I got superkaramba-0.37-RC2.tar.gz from here. Then compiled it as follows,
Code:

$./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix`
$make
#make install

It installs and works fine with all the themes I have tried. Make sure you have installed the KDE and python development libraries.

captain skywave 08-24-2005 03:52 PM

ok - so how do i know which packages i need..?
i mean: is it specific development packages..?
how many - and could you name them to me..?
..and will they be on the 5 64bit cd's for 10.0beta2..? or in the /inst-source at opensuse..?

reddazz 08-24-2005 05:32 PM

Just install using yast and it will fetch the packages from the sources you have configured. The packages you need are python-devel, kdelibs-devel and maybe kdebase-devel. in the future, if you don't know the right package names, use the search function in yast. :)

I just picked up superkaramba-0.37-RC2.tar.gz and running the latest Mandriva. When I run:
$./configure or $./configure --prefix=/usr/bin/kde-config
I get the error, "checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!"

I have been reading the install file and it does say
Quote:

For packages that use the X Window System, `configure' can usually
find the X include and library files automatically, but if it doesn't,
you can use the `configure' options `--x-includes=DIR' and
`--x-libraries=DIR' to specify their locations.
I can only assume its becuase mandriva uses Xorg but where do I find the X include and library files? ...if this is even the problem.

also I thought maybe I didnt have libxorg-X11-devel install but.....
Quote:

[root@me superkaramba]# urpmi libxorg-X11-devel
The following packages can't be installed because they depend on packages
that are older than the installed ones:
libfreetype6-devel-2.1.9-6plf
libxorg-x11-devel-6.8.2-7.1.102mdk
Continue? (Y/n) Y
The package(s) are already installed
The following package names were assumed: libxorg-x11-devel
[root@me superkaramba]# rpm -qa |grep -i xorg*
xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts-6.9-0.cvs20050901.1mdk
xorg-x11-server-6.9-0.cvs20050901.1mdk
xorg-x11-xauth-6.9-0.cvs20050901.1mdk
xorg-x11-6.9-0.cvs20050901.1mdk
libxorg-x11-6.9-0.cvs20050901.1mdk
xorg-x11-xfs-6.9-0.cvs20050901.1mdk
help...
