closed windows stuck in plasma taskbar area

I am experiencing something funny with the KDE4.1 plasma applets.... Sometimes, if a small window appears (such as the file transfer windows or the question boxes), they stay in the taskbar area even after they are closed or they disappeared... thats annoying because for example, at this moment, I have 2 "entries" from Mplayer (windows called Error!) and one file transfer entry that are stuck in the taskbar area. There is no way to get rid of them, only a logout/reboot will do the trick.. Right click on them and selecting "Close" does absolutely nothing... Somebody experienced something similar?

Did you mean to mark this "[SOLVED]"?

If so, kindly post the solution -- even though this is an old post, it still might help someone else w/ the same, or a similar, problem.

Hello

I posted this a long time ago, when I was on opensuse 10.3 and quite frankly, never really had a solution for this issue. Then I moved to slackware 12.2, with kde 3.5. Now on slack 13.1 with kde 4.4.3, this issue is gone. I believe this might have just been a bug on the older KDE releases.

Basically, I suggest this thread be deleted because its been so long with no follow up and is now useless.

AFAIK, LQ doesn't delete threads for age -- a stated goal is to create an archive of solutions.

I think you're right about the relevance of the OP, I've heard KDE 4.1 called beta s/w, & so few will continue to use it.

vlc stuck on taskbar

using vlc 3.0.11
when I close the vlc window I cannot open anymore files in vlc
tried everything I could including running: apt-get install --reinstall vlc

finally solved ti by clicking on: /tools/preferences/interface/ and un-selecting /allow only one instance

now if i could only remove the vlc icon from the task bar when i click on it and hit the quit button...

tried searching the lq forums today for 'vlc' but kept getting error codes for lq search site
