Question Changing the server name.

I just installed SuSE Enterprise 9 and never saw a place to name the server. It appears to default to linux. Does anyone know where you can change the server name?

-Thanks,

There may be a distro specific way to do it, but I think it's standard for the name to be in /etc/hostname - just edit that.

Thanks for the response celejar.

Is that for host or server... or both.

I was thinking more of the actual server name. When I look at my shares from my XP it is showing the server name as linux.

Is not the host file for a domain?

-Thanks

/etc/hostname contains the host name. The name you see when browsing samba shares is the samba server name, which is set in smb.conf (probably in /etc or /etc/samba). You can either set it manually (edit the line beginning 'server string = xxxx') or by using a samba configuration tool (e.g. swat).
