changing suse menu in gnome

How do I change the Suse menu in Gnome? All I want to do is to add extra programs to the Suse menu. I tried logging in as a nomal user and changing it and it gives me permission errors, so then i logged in as the root and changed it and this worked but the change was only visible for the root. When I logged back in as a normal user the programs I had added to the menu were not there.

root has itīs own home folder to store preferences. as has every user. i donīt know how much suse has modified stuff, but maybe you can copy your rootīs menu to your home folder and change permissions to use it?

There's a nice how-to over at Gnome Hacks on how to create custom menus.
Maybe it will be of some help to you.

that show's you how to change applications:///. I want to change suse-menu:/// but I have a problem with permissions. I can't write to this unless I am root and I when i am the root and write to it this only appears for the root not a normal user.

To find out where the file is located, try the following:
1. Log in as root
2. Make a file called "time"
3. Add whatever you want to the menu and save the config
4. Use find to locate all files newer than "time" (find / -newer /root/time -print)
The find command will probably take a while, but it should point you to the modified config file. At that point you can look for a corresponding file for your user account and edit it accordingly or copy root's config and modify the permissions.

It should reside somwhere in /home/your-user-name/.kde -- note the dot in front of KDE.
