Changing IP adress crashes X and VNC

Hi all,

Have a nice COMPAQ proliant server for a customer.
Installed suse 9.3.
Everything was OK on our LAN.
We then installed the server on customer site , and
changed IP adress via YAST.
Boots OK, have login Windows , typing user and password
just gives a grey window with mouse cross but no desktop or so. Doing VNC from LAN has the same result (it worked on OUR LAN of course).

I suppose IP address is stored on some X parameter instead of host name (which did not change).

Thanks for any help.

I answer to myself: probably had made something else and wrong.
Restored /etc , changed IP address with Yast .. and works.
