Exclamation Change nvidia to ATI Graphics

Greetings. Can anyone talk me through or forward me to some info on how to change a graphics card in Suse 10.2? I currently have an older nvidia GeForce 2 card. Have been given an ATI 9200 SE card, which I believe the HCL stated should be autodetected. However it didn't. I don't know if I'm supposed to download and install the drivers first? Or the card first?. Thanks in advance for any and all info. Sandie

Question Did you try sax2 -m 0=vesa

Did you load the nVidia proprietary video driver or just use the default driver? Does Linux startup, but just KDE or Gnome does not start?

If Linux runs, but you can't get a graphics desktop to run, you might try the following command at the terminal prompt.

sax2 -m 0=vesa

See if that get you going with the new video card installed.

Thank You,

Cool You should uninstall the nvidia Driver

Yes, you need to uninstall the driver.

You need to log in as root and you need to enter the terminal command "init 3" to make sure you are at run level 3.

To uninstall the driver, I would change to the folder where the driver is located and using the name of the driver that you loaded I would use the following command (this is the name of the driver that I loaded):

sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.09-pkg2.run.bin --uninstall

Thank You,
