Cannot connect to yast update in 9.2
I have suse 9.2 pro and I have problems connecting to yast update. I either get message: "Connection failed" or "Can't cd to i386". It can't even download list of servers. Konqueror works, but firefox doesn't. I have firewall disabled and on my router, my computer is set as DMZ, meaning I have direct exposure to internet and there isn't any port forwarding needed. I don't really know what to do here, since windows is working without any problems...

Windows can connect to the YaST sources?
Wow. Cool. Trying that now. Seriously, though, try to use a different source. |
Windows cant connect to those sources, what I meant that internet works flawlessly under windows...
|
Yeah, I figured.
Can you ping the sources? Also take a look at the mirrors around the world. I often find myself switching from USC to Chicago to Oregon depending on the connection. HTH!! |
Have a look at the Yast Sticky at the top of this thread. Lots of advice (as well as some of the errors that people have/make) on using Yast repositories.

I had the same problem recently, but found that where I got the updates from had changed their directory structure.
It used to be ftp://updatesite/pub/suse/ and now it's ftp://udpatesite/pub/suse/Suse/ You can check it by just going to the site via your browser. If they don't have i386 directory, it may be lurking down a level. Good luck ws |
I got the same problems nerocz!
Have you found a solution? I'm still searching and try to understand, but maybe I'm too newbie anyway, I got a dlink dsl router and a wireless connection. What about your network configuration? |

I'm assuming since you're using Konqueror and nog Gaelon you're on KDE, right? What kind of message do you get? What kind of "DSL Connection" do you have setup? I - for example - have my DSL modem wired into a NAT router which is wired into my ethernet card. SuSE only knows about the ethernet card and has TCP/IP setup. |
well, I have a DSL-g604t dlink. It is a dsl router and wireless access point with integrated modem.
I'm wriitin from my friend's wireless network and all work well (firefox and online update). Now I'm sure there is a problem with dlink at home and I really dont know what! what do you think about it? |
Ah, at this point I would start searching the forum for your router and issues connecting.
Can you connect at all? I'm not sure by your reply. Also does your ISP give you a static or dynamic IP. If it is static can you ping from your friend's machine? |
Ah-ha!!!!! the curse of the D-Link router strikes again!!!!
After much swearing, threatening and fist-shaking,I got around the problem by disabling IPV6 - apparently the d-link routers don't like it much. To fix the problem add the following to etc/modprobe.conf: alias net-pf-10 off alias ipv6 off Then do a full reboot and everythign should be ok ... Rags |
