What is your host OS (operating system)?

Have you installed vmware_tools on the host?

What are your host graphics settings (and color settings) - resolution and bits? Since it appears that your Suse9 guest is attempting to start with an unsupported screen setting.

Hope this helps

Documented bug...

When you first start the suse install from within vmware, at the first screen that pops up, put x11i=fbdev on the boot options line then start your installation.
