Can not do Online update on Suse10.1.

hi All,
The Suse10.1 on my HP laptop has been very buggy since day one. And it is getting worse. I have not done a online update for a few months. Now, when i go to Yast->Online update, for the long list of the patches, the 'update ' option is disabled. The options available are just 'keep' and 'protected'. Shouldn't I supposed to be able to select 'update' for patches?
Any one got some ideas?
My Suse10.1 is totally a mess now:
- sometimes Suse can not set my monitor resolution correctly, and need to reboot.
- sometimes the sound is gone mysteriously
- it takes several minutes to install a small piece of software like FreePascal from the rpm file.
........

Is there another way to do the online update?

Thanks a lot.

tony

10.1 was a mess from day one.
I would consider updating to 10.2 without zenworks.

However:
What might work with 10.1 is to remove the old repos and reboot, then disable zenworks and re-install new repos for 10.1...

10.3 is out now but seems to have a few bugs.

10.2 without zenworks works perfect on my boxes but yast is slow.

Thanks a lot for the tip.
I tried to do a update via Yast another time. This time it is even slower, but I am able to choose to 'update' the patches. However, the updating process sometimes hangs there. Many user has been complaining about zenworks and Yast on Suse. I think I should disable zenworks on Suse10.1. Perhaps I have done that already. Do not recall clearly what I have done with Suse 10.1. Could you provide more details about disabling Zenworks?
I was going to try things by myself, but the Yast system is working extremely slow now.

Disable zenworks:
yast > software > software management > patterns > un-check enterprise software management (zenworks) > accept

Install new repos:
yast > software > installation source > deleat the "suse 10.1 update" source > finish

Then:
yast > software > online update configuration. --yast will download and install a new update source for you. It will likely take awhile.

Hope this helps.

You can also install the update source manually from this site.

http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Repositories

yast > software > installation source > add > http >
(copy and past)
download.suse.com/update/10.1/
(into the top line). > next (This will also take awhile)

Please note:
The the Suse servers have been very slow due to the new release that came out yesterday that everyone downloading from.
If possible, I still think you should dump 10.1. It's been broke from the start.
